The Walking in the Footsteps of our Ancestors is launching a youth trip to bring Otoe-Missouria tribal members to Nebraska to engage in workshops and community building in and around Lincoln. Applications to attend the trip are now open for interested Otoe-Missouria youth.

Requirements

  • 20 participant limit
  • 5 counselors
  • 4 chaperones (+ project/tribal staff)
  • A waitlist will be instituted once we receive 20 completed applications
  • Grades 8-12 may apply as PARTICIPANTS, youth aged 18-23 may apply as COUNSELORS, parents may apply as CHAPERONES
  • Participants must be enrolled Otoe-Missouria or provide descendancy documentation

Schedule

August 1-8, 2025

Friday, August 1
Stops at Marysville, Barneston, and Beatrice
Arrival; check into dorms
Dinner at Lincoln Indian Center with Community Elders and Youth


Saturday, August 2
Morning with Johnny Carson Center; Vision Maker Media (Filmmaking workshop)
Afternoon with Alison Cloet at Great Plains Art Museum (Art workshop)
Dinner and free time (baseball game or movies)


Sunday, August 3
Morning – Visit Sarah Grace (Hudson) and George Kihega Garden and Cornhusker Bank park
Afternoon – UNL Outdoor Adventures – kayaking
Dinner and free time


Monday, August 4
Tour City Campus and Athletics
Departure
Stop in Yutan, Bellevue
Travel to Pipestone, MN OR We will have another van that will be going back to Red Rock for those not joining the second part of the trip


Tuesday, August 5
Travel to Black River Falls, WI for 5th Annual Ho-Chunk Family Healing Camp
